and now that I have actually thought about this post...

-none of these statistics are cited so who can assume they are accurate
-we all KNOW that the NATIONAL DEBT and EDUCATION in AMERICA as a WHOLE is an atrocity under what party's administration!?!?
-what's a "macine?"

The tax rate here in MGM is a mere .25% below that of Cook County. i'm not so sure how bringing Obama's name into that counts for anything: this was enacted back in March... of this year. so, just like McCain and Clinton and Romney and Giuliani, Obama was out campaigning. but, hey, clever move there. i'll attribute every negative that happened in Phoenix, New York, Arkansas, and Massachusetts to their respective candidates.

give me a break.

Everywhere, everyone’s pensions are headed own the toilet. As for the rest of it...

I don’t know. I don’t live in Chicago, nor does probably anyone reading that post, which is the brilliance behind this latest email smear campaign: talk about things that are difficult for the populace at large to check up on.

http://www.fightthesmears.com/
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

contrary to popular belief, i'm tired of fighting against people like you. folks that relish in the completely falsified connections between Ayers and Obama. folks that take pride in their VP candidate labeling Obama as a terrorist pal. folks that heard McCain refer to Obama as "that one" and thought he really stuck it to him.

i'm tried of fighting it because the gleeful ignorance with which you spread these lies and hate will eventually come back to bite you in the ass as karma.

i don't like John McCain, i'm obviously not voting for him. but i've done my damndest to check and re-check things i hear about him because there is nothing more embarrassing than saying "i care about this election" and "i have done my research" only to realize i'm doing no better than tmz.com or a talking head on Faux News.

so, no. ultimately, this does not make me wonder about my candidate. what it does make me wonder about is where your interests really lie: in the issues? or in the all-capitalized sewage that makes its way to your inbox?

I would also love to know where these statistics are cited from.

I think it is silly to attempt to equate the homicide rate in Chicago first of all with the death toll of soldiers in Iraq, they are not comparable statistics. If they were why not compare New York, L.A., or Memphis all of which probably are in the same ballpark.

The second thing I don't understand (even less than the first) is how someone could blame the homicide rate in Chicago on what party is running things.

Montgomery County has a 10% sales tax.
Montgomery County public schools are TERRIBLE.

And we live in a decidedly Republican state with Republican leadership, so I think this argument is just a silly one designed to appeal to people who don't do anything more than read what they are sent and not think about it.

**Editor's note-I do not think that YOU (sister of mine) are one of these unthinking people and in fact it surprises me that you sent this out as a seemingly credible post because you are smarter than that.

why taxes is Cook County were raised...

Following the passing of the ordinance, county board President Todd Stroger said the agreement would strengthen the county’s ability to provide health care and public safety for residents.

“[The sales tax increase] was passed because the county did not have one reserve fund to draw from. The sales tax had not been raised in 16 years and the property tax has not been raised in 12 years,” Commissioner Murphy said.

“We had to do something for mandated services, we had no choice,” she said. Mandated means, by law, we must provide for public health and public safety.”

The tax revenues collected by the county are divided into thirds, Murphy said. One-third goes to public safety, one-third goes to public health and the remaining third is used for everything else in the county, she explained.

“Everyone is against the sales tax,” Murphy said. “I think it is difficult at this time, but we’re the second biggest county in the country. We cannot just shut down Cook County government.”

Most major U.S. cities run hospitals and jails, Murphy added.

“Here we have no city jail; it’s a county jail,” she said.

Laura, I get blasted from all of you all the time anyways so what makes this any different. I'm obviously the only one out here that is Republican but that doesn't mean I shouldn't post about this election or the candidate I am against.

Luke, you don't know me so I don't take offense to the majority of your comment or even care that it's there. I don't smear people and I could care less about Obama's Ayers connection.

Nick, you aren't really one to talk about seemingly credible when you posted a definition that was from a site called helpbuythebeer.com and was NOT the definition in the Webster's dictionary.

I care about this election more than any of you know because it has a real impact on my family and my personal life. A real, direct impact. I also chose my candidate for several reasons none of which I feel have to be justified to anyone.

You posted about the tax rate so it's obviously not false, this is the link to the pension fund: http://www.rrstar.com/news/x194405103/Illinois-pension-debt-worst-in-nation

The leaders listed are correct and you can find that anywhere.

@ your reply to Laura-
No one said you shouldn't post your thoughts, in fact we all should but we should also be willing to have people come back at us. We all think differently about things that is part of what makes this country great.

@ your reply to me-
I never claimed that the definition on my last post was actually from Websters. In fact when I talked to you online I mentioned that it was a placeholder image found by doing a Google search for the word "liberal". In retrospect I probably should have just posted another picture of a chicken smoking a cigarette. The picture had no real connection to the post I wrote (if you go back and read that post you will see as much). And I will reiterate that post was not aimed at conservatives/Republicans as a whole. It was aimed at local politicians and others who try to use the word liberal like it is a strike against someone.

My biggest source or ire and ill will in this political process and election comes not because of any of the four candidates (though SP does wear on my nerves). It comes in the spreading of baseless lies, emails, and accusations that have just enough non-sense in them for someone to glance at or read and not have to think anything more than what they just saw. This comes for my candidate in the form of things like (he's a muslim, he's for infanticide, he's for teaching sex ed to children, he's going to raise your taxes, he was sworn in on the Koran, he won't pledge allegiance to the flag, he won't wear a flag pin, etc...) all things that people either take out of context, read only what they want into it, or quite simply don't know. It happens on both sides and it is as equally maddening as when they are asked a question and don't answer it.

just looked through that story about the pension plan...

where, uh... is tha-- nope, that's not it.

oh wait, there it is! there's Obama's name on the page!

"Post-debate polling favors Obama over McCain."

again, give me something substantive where Obama is directly linked to rising murder rates in Chicago (as the state capitol, where Obama's offices and HQ are, is Springfield), the pension disaster, and the tax hike in Cook County.

Hey Emily,

I'LL STAND WITH YOU! I AM a REPUBLICAN, A CONSERVATIVE, A PROUD AMERICAN.

And to the Luke dude who spouted off how he was tired of all the lies being spread on his man Barack Hussein Obama (nice american ring to it, huh!)... it's interesting how your candidate is desperately attempting to steal the election!
It's cool how his friends, the ACORN organization.. AND his own campaign organization who do his bidding WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE AND APPROVAL, are out there gathering the thugs from the streets, from every rathole, crack and crevice, who know NOTHING about our government, our country, our history, our future, our FOES, etc etc etc... gathering the ignorant by the tens of thousands, registering them (multiple times, yeh that's REALLY cool and above the law!) and getting their vote(s)on the same day, to insure they really do vote. After all, many of them are likely to be high and out of touch on voting day! Can't have them FORGETTING to vote, huh!

Oh yeh.. the 'stealing the election' part comes in where fully HALF (ACORN said this, NOT me!)... fully half of these registered voters are fraudulent! Some are reported to be registered up to 20 times! (on the nightly news dude, check it out) That's cool, huh.

Can't win fair and square by letting the public choose vote by vote - ONE VOTE PER PERSON??

So desperate to take control of our nation that they gotta clone the liberals and the dimwit clueless thugs (they were on the news - didn't they make you proud?) multiple times, in order to pad the election and secure it?

Does it bother any of you that your candidate is being cheered on by the likes of Hamas, Chavez and every muslim nation across the big pond?! Have you considered WHY our country's enemies are HOPING he gets in? Do you understand that Islam is NOT a religion, but an ideology, a form of intolerant government which is unwilling to peacefully co-exist with ANYONE ELSE of any other persuasion?

You people do understand the ramifications of drinking the 'kool-aid'.. right? It's real simple - It'll KILL you.

I don't know if the "facts" in that "chicago stats" email are literal facts or not...they sound reasonable! But there are PLENTY of other VERY TROUBLING FACTS that deeply concern me without taking that email into account... many of those facts spoken by Obama himself! (Haven't you read his books!)

You folks want socialism and/or communism? Pack your bags and head for Europe and join the decaying ruins over there!

This is America.. the LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE... still the land of opportunity where you can work to acheive your dreams and goals, without fear of Barack Hussein Obama stepping in and taking it from you, to give to someone else who is NOT willing to work to acheive theirs. And why should they when the democrats will rob the acheivers to fund the under acheivers/nonacheivers....cos it's "unamerican" not to give your hard earned money to the lazy folks who don't want to earn their own. According to Joe Bidden, To share is the American thing to do. I prefer the bible's philosophy - let him who does not work, not eat.
I'm all for a helping hand when someone is down due to circumstances beyond his control. I am NEVER for a handout, to those too lazy to earn their own keep... those who democrats have coddled and told they are entitled!

Hey Emily.. have a good day girl!!
The rest of you - lay off the kool-aid!

By the way...
why is it that you democrats always run out and round up the clueless masses and register them to vote, dragging them by the hand (or busload) and giving them the nice pen they fill out the form with (yes, I saw one on tv, bragging about doing it for the nice pen.. and 'other gifts'...oooh.)

Why do you have to go out and encourage people to vote?

If people are not sufficiently encouraged or motivated by their own situation, obviously they don’t care enough to have worthwhile input. If they are that uninformed and uninterested, I certainly don't want them choosing our nation's path.

We don’t ask the customers at the local “Dollar General" to pick the course of action of General Electric (as the “five and dime” crowd doesn’t have a vested interest) so why should we let/even encourage the non-interested to vote?

It couldn't be that democrats would stoop so low as to USE the uneducated, uninformed and uninterested as a stepping stool in their climb toward their own quest for power? Naaah.

i've been asked to lay off, but i can't help it.

there are SO many things that are abhorrent in your argument, Lynn, i don't know where to start.

so i'll start here. first off... American sounding name? you DO realize that our entire culture, including names, got shipped here from Europe, right? right?

my last name, Lucas, has solid roots in both England and Germany. that has a nice Germanic ring to it. i'm glad no one insinuates i have Nazi ties. your name (if that's your real name) has roots in Wales. enjoy that lesson.

as for the rest of your "commentary"... .your ignorant, hateful ramblings regarding Islam as a false religion and merely an ideology are half a step above the garbage i threw out with the cat litter this afternoon. i would like you, mein Freund (oops! there's that crazy German again), to find a person of Muslim faith and tell them they practice a false religion. go ahead, i'll wait.

Wow. I think this post has indeed gone on too far and I don't think that we need to continue this farce. None of us is going to change anyone else's mind and I think that we are wasting time, energy, and blood pressure points by trying.

With all that being said. I am saddened and disappointed to read Lynn's comments (having known her for years) because they really are filled with untruths, dangerous accusations, and statements that are very closed minded.

We all need to step back and move on to the rest of our lives (as we all have them and they are infinitely more important than 'yah-yahing' and one upsmanship).
